Angelica Ante

Robert E. Lee High School

Class of 2016

What extracurricular activities and hobbies do you enjoy?

I enjoy being involved in the athletics program at my school. I have played volleyball, basketball, field hockey, and my favorite, lacrosse. I am also involved in many clubs such as the school newspaper, the environmental club, and several honor societies. I have been a part of the student government association as well. One activity I have been involved in since I was a little girl is piano, and I continue to play. I also love to travel and spend time with friends and family.

If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would you pick? Why?

If I could choose to have dinner with someone from history, I would choose Robert E. Lee. I learned about him during my history class, and how he impacted our history. My school was also named after him. I am interested how he would feel knowing he was a main reason why the Confederates were able to keep up with the Union.

What has been your proudest moment?

My proudest moment has been being named captain of the varsity lacrosse team in 2014, during my sophomore year in high school. I am very proud of this moment because not many underclassmen become captains of their team until they become an upperclassmen. I was looked up to as a leader, and I still continue to lead the team.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I would want to learn how to speak multiple languages because that would be a great skill to have while entering the work force.

What would be the title of your autobiography?

Living Life Lyk a Boss: An Autobiography of Angelica (Lyka) Ante

Why are you committing to the Inspired Year?

I am committing to the Inspired Year because I believe that getting people my age involved in voting, and being able to change something in our community is important to help shape our country when we become older.

What does civic engagement mean to you?

Civic engagement is when citizens help impact the community to help shape the future of the community and change different conditions.

What's your favorite thing about Virginia?

I love how much history there is in Virginia, and how close it is to our nation's capital, Washington D.C.

Where would you like to see Virginia in 20 years?

I would want to help change Virginia environmentally by creating an eco-friendly community for its residents.

If you could tell Governor McAuliffe one thing, what would you tell him?

Being president of the environmental club of my school, I would want him to help pass legislation towards the environment.

Is there anything else you would like people to know about you?

I want people to know how hard working I am, and that I am committed to anything I am involved in.
