Class of 2016

What extracurricular activities and hobbies do you enjoy?

I enjoy playing lacrosse for my school team as well as playing during my free time, hanging out with my friends and also volunteering at KEEN I low key like playing the violin, however I don't think I'm very good. I also like helping out in the environmental club we have in our school.

If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would you pick? Why?

I would have dinner with Martin Luther King, Jr because he was and still is a very big influence and leader in our history/society today. I feel like we would have a great time talking about his past ideas and his thought process on the Civil Rights Movement and white supremacy. This topic is very interesting to me and I always find myself relating a topic to Dr. King.

What has been your proudest moment?

I have made my parents proud countless of times, whether it be getting good grades at school, helping out around the house or being a role model to my younger siblings. However, I don't think I have made them proud enough to satisfy myself. There is definitely something else that I can push myself to do that I know will make them beyond proud. I hope this moment is when I get my first college acceptance letter, because that is where I will know that all their hard work paid off.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

If I could learn to do anything, I would learn how to shoot a ball behind my back into the goal for lacrosse. As small as that seems, it has been a goal of mine since freshman year. Now that my last season of lacrosse is coming up, I am bound to get this trick down and score a goal.

What would be the title of your autobiography?

The title of my autobiography would be In A Blink of an Eye.

Why are you committing to the Inspired Year?

I am committing to this because I am very excited for the opportunities Inspired Virginia has in store for us. It seems like an amazing time for me to work on my leadership skills as well as many little things I have to work on like public speaking, talking to superiors etc.

What does civic engagement mean to you?

To me, civic engagement means being active and aware of the political surroundings we have not only in our country but also state. It is important to know of these sorts because we are the upcoming generation who will be the government.

What's your favorite thing about Virginia?

I love how Virginia is very diverse. It is as if I am traveling across the world in my own backyard. It is amazing to see everyone who is free and allowed to live they've dreamed of instead of living in their third world country.

Where would you like to see Virginia in 20 years?

I would love to see Virginia wealthy and eco-friendly in 20 years. Being in environmental club, we have collected so many recyclable items that could go to great use. With the many 21st century technology we have, it will only go bigger and more advanced in the future. I hope the future will go back to its roots and realize that nature is just as important as their advanced technology - probably even more.

If you could tell Governor McAuliffe one thing, what would you tell him?

I would tell Governor McAullife that our school had a group/club supporting him during his election called the Young Democrats. These people, whom I know personally, were very dedicated and loved every bit of it.

Is there anything else you would like people to know about you?

I'm shy at first, but once I get comfortable with who I am, I'm a blast to be with! (or so i hope).
