If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would you pick? Why?
This is a really tough question, because they're so many options. But I think if I could pick one person, it would be Robert F. Kennedy. I really think that the reasons he ran for president speak to me. He was a man who wanted to make real and lasting change in a country he loved. He wanted to fight policies, not people or parties and I highly respect that. I think that if there was any person who could've made a difference in those times it was him.
What has been your proudest moment?
My proudest moment was probably winning grand championship with my show choir. The feeling of having months of hard work creating a 20 minute set, finally paying off was extremely rewarding. That moment brought us closer together as a choir and family then ever before and it was one of the best moments of my life.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to learn to play a string instrument like violin or cello. I think they make very beautiful music and I would love to learn to play them.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
Yes, I know my name sounds like Nick Jonas. A memoir.
Why are you committing to the Inspired Year?
Because I want to make a difference in my schools community and create a more politically aware student body
What does civic engagement mean to you?
Civic engagement to me at the most basic level means awareness. I think whether people actually choose to get involved is their perogative, but everyone should be aware of the issues around them.
What's your favorite thing about Virginia?
I love how virginia has such a rich history, growing up in richmond, I was only an hour or so away from colonial Williamsburg, an hour and a half away from Jamestown or Monticello, and 3 hours away from mount Vernon. Virginia is home to 2 capitols of the confederacy, countless battlefields and museums, and the birthplace of 8 presidents. Virginias history is what makes it such an ideal place for politically minded activities.
Where would you like to see Virginia in 20 years?
I would love to see virginia as a more progressive state. Doing more to help end poverty and create jobs, and worrying less about social issues. Virginia has a very socially conservative population, I would like to see them open their minds to new ideas.
If you could tell Governor McAuliffe one thing, what would you tell him?
I would love to see him work to make college more affordable. Virginia has some of the best public schools in the country, students in virginia should be given the opportunity to attend these institutions at a more affordable rate.
Is there anything else you would like people to know about you?
Sometimes I'm funny
